Japan infoes

Meheheheh.

Who knows how to eat?
We do...

Who knows when to not use your cell phone?
We certainly do...

Who knows how to build a traditional Japanese home?
okay... wait, what?

The land of the rising sun. Extremely rich in culture, and they are proud of it.
Much like asia's version of France. Living by their nitty gritty cultural etiquette
on a daily basis. So... how are we to immerse ourselves in their culture, to be polite
and such? READ UP!

Vina looked up to these sites for information on Japanese culture and social
etiquette, which i think could be very helpful on our trip...
And it is bloody informative, like a wikipedia of narnia.
I guess its from the japanese government, japan tourism board... so, the
information is very comprehensive.

The same site, but the cultural index page.
http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/indepth/cultural/experience/index.html

And guys, those who are concerned about the Fukushima incident or if you are a beef lover,
you can visit the japanese embassy site for some nice FAQs.

Heh, dead cow safety

Aside from the sites from the Japanese Govt and the embassy, there are two
other sites that are great to read up on.

JPHK Meeting

Meeting at 11am!
and a measly few turned up punctually, though I'm hardly punctual as well.
NONETHELESS, the meeting went on as the humans start coming in.

Man down! Man down! Pardon me, its a lady...
We recieved saddening news about Chao ling not being able to join us.
With Mei En not able to fill the void, who could be the next contender for the void?

Up next, Amanda brought us our JRail Tickets!!!! Thank you Amanda.
Official images will be at the end of the post.

Also, we recieved news that Mr. Oscar Ho will replace Arthur at CUHK since he cant make it.
And, removing Osage Kun Tong.

Joey reminded us to send her the MFA forms as well for the OSC.

And Halima shared a whole bunch of awesome Toadstool like cupcakes with us.
Sheila's smile is a statement to its appealing looks and taste.

Joey, excited as usual.

The cupcake artist.

And, the cupcakes. They still look like magical toadstools to me.
I would prefer to call them that.

The one of the panel of judge seems to be extremely satisfied.

And ALL of us nommings away during the meeting. Yes, we get the job done, though our conversations keep sidetracking towards the cupcakes. Back to the meeting.

Hold up, just the innards of the cupcake for viewing. ok, back to the meeting.

Sheila then presented the Gift for the Hk artist layout. Here is it. Singapore.

Soon after the hype of the prismatic cupcakes ended, an insane act of compulsion to pile up
what we have in the meeting for a photo shoot erupted in the midst of the meeting room.

Proudly presenting our purchase, of the JRail passes, Kang Hoon happily yet seriously setting up the
compositions for a photo shoot. With joey's silly picture, JRail passes, Gift layout

Finalising....

And Viola! The seeds have been sown. It also marks the end of today's rather eventful meeting.

WILL the empty slot be ever filled up?

Can the gift team produce their work on TIME?

Or will there be more CAKES?

probably COMING UP in the next update
Stay Tuned...

Sheila and Chloe's adventures

Once upon a time, there were two brave women on a journey
to produce a print.

It was fate that brought two souls with a single aim, and that is to find a solution
to print their artist gift for the JPHK trip.

Due to a faulty exposure machine. Their sophisticated printmaking technique requires that machine. Otherwise, there will be no print.

They searched and travelled far and wide. And contacted their T.O., which gained them access to the fashion dept exposure machine, but was also faulty. Is this an act of God? Can these two brave women go against the odds? We shall see as they push onward...

They arrived at Lam Tong, a printmaking company tucked away in a secluded area of industry. According to the workers, their image quality is too low, prints are supposed to be circular dots, however, theirs was distorted upon closer inspection. Because of the lousy printer at the printer shop, the quality of the print will slowly degrade as more prints are added on.

Thus it was not an option, though it can be considered, until another problem arose. Cost.
Its costly to prepare the screens at Lam Tong. It is calculated to rack up 180 dollars for the screens and printing alone. not considering the cost of materials.

Thus, it concludes that the journey of two women though they failed to achieve their goals,
was however, a great one, that reaps much experience and knowledge in printmaking.
I wouldn't say its a loss at all.

Moral of the story?
Give it your best shot, even if it fails you WILL learn something.
See you next time.

Gift Team Meeting

Meeting at 1pm, and started work.

Sheila planned the layouts and notes, while chloe, vina and melissa edited the scanned images.

The Gift Team at work.

Sheila trying to counterfeit notes.

Meanwhile... Sheila ran into counterfeiting issues.
An incriminating act in the name of the study trip and Art, how noble of her.
Sadly, the cops didn't come.

But the paranoia of the imac's built in camera having the ability to be used by secret agents
is enough drama and entertainment to kill stagnant atmosphere.

End of the day, its just a built in counterfeit deterrence system in adobe's software.

Mynas contributed by Chao Ling

Melissa at work

Chloe editing work, before suddenly an argument about a
K-pop star exploded within the computer lab.

And our "acting" supervisor, seems to be very serious about his work, thinking hard
about possibilities of layouts and about his ideas...

albeit with a pretentious agenda, on youtube.
A source of entertainment to some, but a source of inspiration to one.

end of the day we wrapped up with homework, individually to work out different layouts
and sent them to sheila for compilation.

Meeting minutes

This meeting goes about finalizing the itinerary and proceed with purchasing the J Rail passes.

It also includes the follow up actions during the trip and after the trip. Pack list and reshuffling of the teams in overseas and then back in Singapore to managed the exhibition.

We are then advised by joey to create a online portfolio to link up with the exhibition website, hopefully to create and continue the ring of contacts.

Just a short meeting and a reminder for those who have not registered with MFA regarding our travel.
Oh and Visas.

Next meeting is scheduled on 23 may 2013.

Monday 6 May 2013

Meeting of itinerary team, Gift team and Blog team.

Our HoD as usual supervising.

Itinerary Team planning and preparing the slides for next meeting.

They suddenly decides to stare at a blank screen.

and resume their discussion with the Hong Kong issue.

Meanwhile, reading up for the blog.

Some severe discussion going on regarding the gift ideas and layout.

Wanting something regarding Singapore.

Googling images of Singapore buildings for silhouette layout.

And fell dead.

People busying around doing their job.

until the afternoon.

Planning for gift...

Here, we have Gift team discussing in regards to the layout and conceptualisation of the gifts @ student lounge on display. They talked about the ideas of mynas and symbolic objects of Singapore, at the same time the Gift team avoided being too tourist oriented towards their work. So far, we came up with...

Chao Ling had an impression of the mynas in Singapore, thus her part revolves around capturing the essence of mynas in her Chinese ink technique.

LJ intends to use his extremist ways of line works to create street views of Singapore.

Chloe will explore layouts of Singlish captions like "walau eh" "how ar?" and "aiyah". and additions of toys with colourful outline drawings.

Vina was tasked to draw faces of humans to reflect on the epidermis of the city.

They then touched on the issues of the blog. Wix was introduced by Joey before, and went on to discuss the feasibility of that particular site.

We then ended off the meeting with satays and chicken wings brought by Chao ling.
